Skin Cancer
Skin cancer is a general term for many different types of cancer that involve the formation of a cancerous growth on the skin. Skin cancer is usually relatively easy to diagnose in early stages, since it generally occurs on the surface of the skin and the tumour can be spotted without difficulty. ccc Although the chance of survival from skin cancer is quite high, it is a very rapidly developing form of cancer. Basal cell cancer and squamous cell cancer are considered to be less dangerous forms of skin cancer than melanoma. Basal cell cancer is the most common type of skin cancer and, like melanoma, is thought to be caused by excessive exposure to sunlight. It is unlikely to spread to other parts of the body.
The main cause for getting skin cancer is thought to be exposure to direct sunlight and ultraviolet radiation, which damages the DNA of the cells, causing them to mutate and develop malignancies. Other risk factors that influence an individual‘s chance to develop skin cancer are long-term open wounds that do not heal, certain genetic conditions and Human Papilloma Virus.
